What is Evana Heavy Period Relief Tranexamic Acid 500 mg Tablets?

A pharmacy-only tablet containing tranexamic acid 500 mg, licensed to reduce heavy menstrual bleeding over several cycles in women aged 18 and over who have regular cycles of 21 to 35 days. It treats the bleeding itself rather than the pain, and is taken only on the days you are bleeding.

How does it help?

Tranexamic acid is an antifibrinolytic. During a period the body breaks down the clots that would normally slow bleeding; tranexamic acid slows that breakdown, so the natural clots hold for longer and the flow is reduced. It is not a hormone and it is not a contraceptive — it does not affect your cycle.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. This is for women aged 18 and over with regular periods. Do not use if you have had a blood clot, a stroke, or a condition that makes clots more likely, if you have kidney problems, or if you are pregnant. Tell our pharmacist if you take the combined contraceptive pill, tranexamic acid for another reason, or any medicine that affects clotting. See your GP if your periods are irregular, if bleeding is new or has changed, if you bleed between periods or after sex, or if heavy bleeding continues after three cycles of treatment.
