What is Abidec Multivitamin Drops 25ml?
Abidec is a licensed multivitamin liquid for babies and children, given once a day with the syringe supplied. It provides vitamins A, D and C together with four B vitamins. The NHS advises that children from 6 months to 5 years take a daily supplement containing vitamins A, C and D unless they are having more than 500ml of infant formula a day, and Abidec is one of the products that meets that need. Babies under 1 take 0.3ml a day; children aged 1 to 12 take 0.6ml.
How does it help?
The drops top up what a child gets from food and milk. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium for growing bones and teeth, vitamin A supports normal vision and the immune system, vitamin C helps maintain skin, gums and blood vessels, and the B vitamins help the body release energy from food. The dose is measured with the syringe and given onto the back of the tongue, where it is swallowed and absorbed through the gut like the vitamins in a meal.
Key benefits
- Covers the vitamins A, C and D the NHS recommends for young children
- Simple once-a-day dose measured with the syringe in the pack
- Licensed medicine with a fixed, stated amount of each vitamin per dose
- Suitable from under 1 year right through to age 12 at two simple doses
Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Contains arachis (peanut) oil: do not give to a child with a peanut allergy, and because peanut and soya allergy can go together, avoid it in soya allergy as well. Do not give alongside any other product containing vitamin A or D, including cod liver oil, unless a doctor or pharmacist has advised it. Babies having more than 500ml of infant formula a day already get added vitamins, so check with us before giving Abidec. Not for use in pregnancy or breastfeeding. Never exceed the stated dose. Stop and seek urgent help if the child develops swelling of the face, lips or tongue, itching or a rash after a dose. Our pharmacist checks it is right for your child before it is dispensed.
